November 6th 2010, Phillip Gowins, author of ‘Practical Sufism:  A Guide to the Spiritual Path,’ joined Connect.  Phillips defined Sufism.  He described what qualities are essential for progress on the path of Sufism.  Phillip expressed why having a teacher is important.  He shared his personal spiritual journey and his experience finding a teacher.  Phillip emphasized the role of breathing in helping us go inward.

October 30th 2010, Paul Sahba, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, joined Connect.  Paul explained what EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is and it’s origins with Dr. Shapiro.  He explained how and why it works in the treatment of anxiety and trauma.  Paul reviewed some of the research supporting the use of EMDR in clinical practice.  He explained the training necessary for clinicians to work with EMDR.  The role of EMDR in pain management was discussed.
